Watch buyers, watch sellers, and watch collectors join Tim Mosso for a quick review of questions from our global audience. Tim explains why the Rolex Daytona 116500LN wouldn’t be his choice in a matchup with the Rolex Yacht Master II 116680. Rolex simply makes a more appealing and readable chronograph in the regatta-themed Yacht Master 2. Moreover, Tim finds the Yacht Master 2’s flyback regatta timer, programmable countdown, and superb legibility to be more practical even when not timing sailing starts. We discuss a three-watch collection for under $5,000, and Tim explains how to build such a quiver of watches with a dive watch from Seiko, a dress watch from Meistersinger, and a pilot’s watch from Omega. Respectively, these are the Seiko Prospex SBDC059 limited edition, the Meistersinger No. 2 one-hand watch, and the Omega Speedmaster Professional X-33 3290.50.00 chronograph. Finally, Tim offers guidance on times when it is advisable and not advisable to sell a watch. Naturally, don’t sell a watch under stress, due to peer pressure, or when the watch has significant personal or family history. DO sell a watch to fund the purchase of a more desired watch, when you want to fund a different passion – such as sailing or motorcycles – and when serious personal and life priorities override the need for epicurean delights. However, even in these cases, Tim advises that watch collectors always keep the door open to a return!
