Mike Manjos, Brian Govberg, and CQ Gottlieb are all showing up at the table today to discuss a question on all watch lovers' minds: where does the watch industry go in the wake of the coronavirus? Well these 3 veteran watch traders break it down from their points of view as to the next steps for manufactures, retailers, and customers alike.
They first start by discussing some of the new announcements we've had while under lockdown such as the Breitling Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition and Patek Philippe Calatrava; Ref. 6007A. With the popularity of these pieces combined with the elimination of large scale launch events, they question if this is what the future of watch releases look like and whether that's good or bad.
They also begin to breakdown what watches have been performing well and why. Whether it be "recession proof" pieces like the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu or value buys with prices softening such as the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, the team examines what we can expect out of some big brand watches. Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Jaeger-Lecoultre are all also discussed as far where the trio sees them going in the future.
Finally, they wrap their conversation by examining what they think the future of the buyers' interest will go. Will there be a return of vintage watches? Will smaller brands have to work to differentiate themselves in this new world? All of this and more is debated in the newest episode of After Hours!
