Last week, Mike Manjos did a deep dive into Rolex. This week, he breaks down another historically innovative brand - Audemars Piguet.
First and foremost he starts us off with selections from our inventory: the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tribute to No Rad Limited Edition of 500 pieces, Patek Philippe’s Pilot Watch (5524G) with a Tiffany & Co. signature, and the Louis Erard/Alain Silberstein Triptyque Set.
In our main story - looking at Audemars Piguet’s past and future – Manjos provides a brief introduction to the company’s innovation followed by their history through the lens of his three favorite watches. His selections include the Star Wheel (25720BA) and Jules Audemars Skeleton Minute Repeater (26356PT) as great examples of mechanical complexity. But it’s the iconic 5402ST Royal Oak A-Series that he chooses as his favorite - not just changing the company, but the watch industry as a whole.
The show wraps up with some Market Trends surrounding AP. With an annual watch production of 40,000 coupled with a high demand, nearly all AP watches are acquired on the secondary market. Manjos explains that there’s value to be had in the grand complications and non-Royal Oak models. On top of that, the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak is coming up which means all models in the line are expected to rise in value.
