http://www.thewatchbox.com Franck Muller's Long Island Grand Date Automatic recalls the glory days of Long Island's gold coast during the Art Deco heights of the late 1920s. Like the Great Gatsby, this watch embodies raffish flamboyance and roaring twenties attitude. A large rectangular case in 18-k white gold stays true to the bold rectilinear geometries of the Art Deco movement, but a cambered side profile and sapphire crystal are a nod to the irreverence of modern art for "styles" in general. The watch is 45mm between extremities, but the gentle curve of the case back and short lugs ensure that the Franck Muller Long Island wears smaller - more like a 42mm round watch. The dial of the Long Island features a classical dress watch combination: silver base and black numerals. The silver watch face is cut in an elegant guilloche that ebbs and flows in gentle waves. Each numeral combines curves and straight lines for an ambitious aesthetic that stops just short of overkill. Blued hands and a highly legible big date complete the handsome dial of the Franck Muller Long Island. The Long Island gold coast is home to few remnants of its interwar heyday, but the zeitgeist lives within this Franck Muller Long Island Grand Date. Available through thewatchbox.com with all papers, boxes, and factory manuals, this Long Island presents as new and wears with panache. Video and content by Tim Mosso.
