http://www.thewatchbox.com The Chronoswiss brand is company founder Gerd-Rudiger Lang's love letter to watch enthusiasts. Himself a prolific collector of luxury watches (700-1,000 pieces and counting!), Lang also holds impressive credentials as a watchmaker. In the Chronoswiss Opus, Lang wanted to build a luxury watch - a chronograph, no less - that would incorporate the same intricate dial and movement skeletonization of haut-de-gamme pieces from the likes of Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. By leveraging a process known as "spark erosion," Lang managed to pare the dial and movement plates of the Valjoux 7750 base movement to the bare essentials. Make no mistake; you can see daylight through either side of this eye magnet. Not only did Lang pare metal, but he also pared the price. The Opus, when purchased new, represented a phenomenal value and brought the art of skeleton fabrication within reach of an entirely new audience of collectors. When purchased pre-owned, as this example is, the Opus allows even new and modestly-budgeted collectors to jump orders of magnitude above the artistry of most entry level luxury watches. Manufactured at Lang's workshop in Munich, Germany from parts manufactured in Switzerland, the Chronoswiss Opus chronograph is a case study in luxury watch value-for-money. A spectacle with few direct rivals when new, it sits in a class by itself among pre-owned timepieces. Few watches at any price point can match the crowd-pleasing "wow"
