Théo Ginsburg is a watch collector, a craftsman, and the founder of Forty Knots No Smoke, a one-man fine leather goods line. He works out of his upstate New York workshop where he does things the old-fashioned way: by hand, one stitch at a time. "It's really important to me to maintain the honesty of the craftsmanship by doing things by hand," says Ginsburg. "Leather craft is an industry and a skill set that does not change because it was perfected such a long time ago."
Far away from Upstate New York, in Nagano Prefecture in central Japan, Citizen's engineers spent the last decade developing prototypes of a new generation of Accutron watches - the first two models from the brand now reborn 60 years after its original introduction.
In this video, produced in partnership with Accutron, we offer a glimpse into the revival of an American design icon and how the past can inform a new language of design and craft.
