When Stephen was a child, his father, Master Sergeant James Damico, took Stephen to airshows, where they would see the Thunderbirds. Stephen wanted a watch that reminded him of his father – and had it engraved with one of his father's favorite sayings: "Work Smarter, Never Quit."
