The Panerai Radiomir Composite PAM 504 combines the look of a vintage Panerai combat dive watch with the hottest watchmaking technology of the 21st century: ceramic.
Ceramic, which is an inorganic metallic compound, packs the scratch resistance of sapphire crystal; only a diamond or a *huge* knock can mar its surface. But ceramic can be prone to fracture. Enter Panerai's "composite" technology.
Composite is a material formed by chemically transforming the outer aluminum shell of a Panerai Radiomir 504 case into a thin layer of ceramic. Underneath the top layer, the aluminum core remains fully metallic and intact. The result is the best of both worlds: the scratch resistance of ceramic and the shatter resistance of aluminum.
It's also a very light material. On the wrist, the Panerai Radiomir PAM 504 feels as gossamer as a titanium case, but it packs the durability of full kiln-fired ceramic. The 47mm cushion case of the Radiomir wears even more comfortably when rendered in composite. Even better, the flat profile of the manual-wind PAM 504 means this is the rare Panerai watch that plays well with long sleeves and dress cuffs.
Panerai imbues the Radiomir Composite PAM 504 with a vintage vibe that should resonate strongly with the "Paneristi" fans of the brand. A simulated aged radium "dirty dial" mimics the look of a true 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s Panerai combat dive watch that has weathered the onslaught of years.
