As the world continues to reopen, Mike Manjos returns to WatchBox’s HQ in Philly, taking a closer look at what’s been driving the pre-owned watch market. He assesses trading velocity and the general energy among collectors, dealers, and brands, shining a spotlight on some exceptional pieces that arrived on the trading floor this week.
A. Lange & Söhne holds a special place in Mike’s heart, so when the Grand Lange 1 Lumen arrived, it was no surprise that this was the first piece he brought to the conversation. The contrast between the semi-transparent dial and ultra-bright, luminous accents, including a glowing outsized date, adds a dose of funk to the traditional German house. Given its spectacular aesthetic and overall rarity, this piece won’t last very long in WatchBox’s inventory.
The second and third watches explored this week both fall under the vintage umbrella: a Rolex Daytona 6265 Big Red on a Jubilee bracelet, and a stunning Patek Philippe pocket watch from the late 1800s-early 1900s with an enamel dial and historic charm.
Mike notes a surging momentum in the marketplace as pricing continues to stabilize, and in some cases – such as white-dialed Rolex Daytonas and blue Sky-Dwellers – even tests market highs.
