Rolex Awards – Liu Shaochuang – Ep. 1: Written in the Stars

Liu Shaochuang, a 2023 Rolex Awards Laureate, is using a modern solution to help an ancient creature. For thousands of years, wild camels have roamed the vast plains of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia and China, but they are now critically endangered. A remote sensing specialist, Liu uses tracking collars and remote sensing satellite technology to help study the elusive camels across 200,000 square kilometres of inhospitable terrain. By bringing his expertise to this venture, he believes the new insight he can offer could prove crucial in the efforts to protect the enigmatic species.
