Gabrielle Chanel's favourite flower, the camellia, has no smell: to correct this oversight of nature, the gardenia lent it its own scent. But elusive gardenia also posed a challenge to CHANEL's perfumer craftsmanship. The olfactory signature of this silent flower was recreated thanks to a skilful blend of other raw materials.
