At the first-ever Maison Martin Margiela runway show, the brand decided to cover model's faces with masks containing more than 2,4000 sparkly crystals so that not even designer Raf Simons, who took his seat in the front row, could see them. The 15-look "Artisanal" collection also caused a buzz because it brought back "true haute couture" with every single piece crafted by hand in designs that paid tribute to vintage and the brand's past. Baseball gloves formed a bolero, vintage lace ran amuk, and a sleeveless jacket was based on a 1905 coat with a closure made up of a crystal doorknob from NYC. The final overcoat was made of a sail used for windsurfing. It doesn't get any better than that.
