SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/FashionTVSUB http://www.FashionTV.com/videos NEW YORK - Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sister duo that make up the Rodarte label, decided to throw their energy into a Fall/Winter 2013 collection based on Australia at New York Fashion Week. Ironically though, for a pair that wanted to reference the Australian Outback, we're not so sure where the shearling and slightly oversize daytime dresses fit in. After all, these are the kinds of things you could see being worn on the streets, not the wilderness. We're guessing they used the Australian outback in reference to the colors and prints of the collection, not in the safari way some other designers may have done it. We like where they're going with this, especially where the tailoring and structure is concerned, regardless of the fact it wasn't the Australia we first imagined. The dresses with handprints made a beautiful statement and the rest of the clothes reflected something more retro and stylish than sand. We'll take this over our original idea of Australia any day.
