Casa Vogue 2021: Shruti Jaypuria

Shruti Jaipuria, founder of Maia Design (@maia.designstudio) is the final word in design for Bengaluru’s restaurant scene. Having trained in New York under architect Tony Chi, this Parsons graduate focuses on creating tangible experiences by imagining life-size murals and dramatic lighting, among other effects. The brain behind some of the best eateries in Bengaluru such as Toast & Tonic, her roster has now extended to include high-end residences in the city, as well as in Kolkata. “Through my work, I’ve explored thikri work from Udaipur, thathera brass work from Jaipur and lacquer from Channapatna,” she says of her crafts- based approach, which has been key to designing the candy-coloured sushi parlour Lucky Chan in Bengaluru and the theatrical restaurant Rika at the Park Hyatt, Hyderabad.
