Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Chronograph Luxury Watch Review

Executed with style and packed the the legendary Zenith El Primero chronograph caliber, the Toric Chronograph combines Parmigiani panache with Zenith engineering excellence. At 39mm, the Parmigiani Toric offers an outstanding rival to a perennial collector favorite: the Rolex Daytona 16528. The gold El Primero-powered Rolex is similar in size and brings the same sports/dress versatility to the table, but the Parmigiani Toric pulls a head in the style stakes. Parmigiani sets its Toric Chronograph apart with strong lugs and a complex multi-stepped "beehive" case. The Toric's lugs jut outward with a visual strength absent in the Daytona's cushion-style Oyster case, and layered case flanks are delightfully baroque without stepping into the excess of rococo. A rich silver guilloche dial fashions neoclassical imagery to which the Rolex Daytona has no answer. In classic Parmigiani fashion, a rich Hermes leather strap seems to melt rather than wrap around the wrist. At the underside of the Hermes leather loop, a superb double-deployant gold clasp solidly trumps the Rolex clasps of the "El Primero" Daytona era. But the Parmigiani takes the Zenith El Primero where Rolex didn't have the heart to venture; back to Zenith's 36,000 VpH roots.
