MARNI Fall 2024 Milan - CNMI Experience the extraordinary with Marni's Francesco Risso—predictability is not in his vocabulary. The venue for today's showcase? A cavernous space beneath Milan's stazione Centrale, enveloped entirely in white paper, with cubic seating and oscillating lightning poles, setting an atmospheric tone that's not for the faint-hearted but utterly captivating. White paper is a recurring obsession for Risso—last year, he blanketed the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo with immaculate sheets for his fall 23 collection. In preparation for this collection, Risso and his team transformed their Marni headquarters studio with the same white-paper treatment, eliminating visual distractions to an extreme, inspired by Virginia Woolf's invitation to "bring no clothes," which prompted a radical deconstruction of the creative process. Working without visual references led to an instinctual, primal design approach—shapes and volumes stripped of the "para-essential," returning to a state of purity. Pockets, buttons, and unnecessary details were hidden or reduced, allowing the soul of the shape to shine.
