Asian-Heritage Communities: A History of Resilience

For 2022's API (Asian and Pacific Islander) Heritage Month, we're bringing you the histories of Asian-heritage communities marked by past injustices, resilience, and bravery. These stories are authored by the activists, historians, and memory keepers of these communities—revealing connections to the present-day and celebrating movements for change. It includes the histories of the struggle and success of the South Asian diaspora, who built their futures in the face of oppression. As well as the grit and resilience of Southeast Asian refugees fleeing violence through art, song, storytelling, and poetry. We discuss the fight for justice and reparations for Nikkei people forcibly removed and incarcerated during World War II. And we shine a light on the actions of Filipino-American agricultural workers who forever changed labor laws and organizing in the United States.
