For the moving sixth and final instalment in British Vogue’s A Celebration of Pride series, Lizzo’s creative director Quinn Wilson turns her lens on drag queen Symone, who opens up about how creating her drag persona allowed her to be free. “Symone… she’s the person that I really am,” she says, explaining that in fact, it’s when she presents as a gay man that she’s wearing a metaphorical mask. The ever more urgent Black Lives Matter movement was a central theme for Quinn, whose hometown is Minneapolis, scene of George Floyd’s horrifying death at the hands of the police. For her, the film is a contribution to the cause. “This is the first time over the past couple of months that I’ve felt like I’ve done something positive for the movement,” she says.
