IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month Luxury Watch Review

http://www.thewatchbox.com/watches/iwc Released in 2012, the IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month is the ultimate luxury complication for watch enthusiasts with a taste for aeronautical adventure. The 46mm rose gold case evokes the oversized pilot's watches of IWC's past while confirming the company's standing among the modern elite of high horology. A dial optimized for legibility and elegance conveys a formidable array of information; date, month, leap year cycle, hours, minutes, seconds, and chronograph time are available at a glance. The "ardoise" grey metallic sunburst backdrop serves as a handsome canvas for IWC's unique digital perpetual calendar display and elegant "mono counter" for chronograph hours and minutes. Inside the imposing 46mm gold case, this IWC perpetual calendar chronograph houses an engine worthy of the name "Spitfire." An in-house automatic IWC caliber 89801 provides efficient winding via ceramic winding rotors and IWC's signature Pellaton pawl-based winding system (here featuring an upgraded four-pawl arrangement). A 68-hour power reserve, robust free sprung balance, vertical clutch/column wheel chronograph actuation, and flyback chronograph action complete the pre-flight checklist. For good measure, IWC completes each Spitfire Perpetual Calendar caliber with a skeletonized winding rotor in the image of the legendary English RAF "Spitfire" fighter: the name sake of this watch.
