Watch Ben Harper Surprise His Biggest Fan, and Catch a Sneak Peek of His New Song

Ben Harper plays his latest track, talks about his fans, and explains why he thinks a car stereo is as important as a guitar amp. When one of Ben Harper’s biggest admirers toured the guitarist’s Los Angeles studio, the visit became a surprise one-on-one with the man himself when Harper unexpectedly appeared. Superfan Angelene Langeslay was amazed when Harper turned up and asked her to join him in a Chevy Malibu to sound test a new song from his forthcoming powerful new album, Call It What It Is—his first record with the Innocent Criminals in nine years, out on Stax Records on April 8. Harper explained that he likes to test his recordings outside the studio, to make sure they sound good on the kind of audio system his fans will listen on. He normally conducts sound tests in a car with the members of his band, so it was a special opportunity for Langeslay to be invited in and have Harper discuss his recording techniques with her.
