This Omega Museum Collection Cosmic 1951 is one of 1,951 produced for the second series Omega Museum Watch Collection- and an unexpected challenger to Vacheron Constantin. Skeptical? Compare the Cosmic 1951 to the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Toledo 1952, and marvel at the similarity.
Both the Vacheron and the Omega Cosmic 1951 are tribute watches crafted in the image of an early 1950s complete-calendar rectangular predecessor. Each watch features a twin-aperture day-month at 12 o'clock, a moon phase display at six (hence Omega's "Cosmic" moniker), and a full-precious metal case.
But Vacheron's watch debuted in 2003; Omega's second-series Museum Collection unveiled the Cosmic 1951 in 2002. Advantage: Omega.
Moreover, both the Vacheron Constantin and the Omega Omega Museum Collection Cosmic 1951 feature large, expressive lugs. The teardrop style Omega lugs offer overtones of visual strength and character absent from the more voluminous and soft Toledo 1952.
With its complex camber, the case of the Omega sweeps downward to each flank and arcs across the top of the wrist; it's the ideal companion to a long sleeve or dress cuff.
Omega's matte blue dial presents a more masculine front than the silver guilloche of the Vacheron, and the gilt-style gold print is a fitting vintage-inspired complement to the applied rose gold hands and indices.
Each Omega Museum Collection Cosmic 1951 features an 18-karat rose gold case
