Gemma Chan Talks Anti-Asian Hate, Imposter Syndrome, And Working With Harry Styles | British Vogue

“It’s only a fairly recent thing that Asian females have been able to be the protagonists of stories,” Gemma Chan tells Zing Tsjeng in the latest episode of British Vogue’s In Conversation video series. “I think we’re making progress.” Chan’s own career reflects this long overdue shift. A familiar face on screen for well over a decade, it’s only now that Vogue’s September cover star is enjoying the box office glory she richly deserves. Watch the video in full as Chan – soon to appear alongside Angelina Jolie and her old friend Richard Madden in Chloé Zhao’s Marvel epic Eternals, and in Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling with Harry Styles – discusses the disturbing rise of anti-Asian hate, grappling with imposter syndrome, and the Crazy Rich Asians WhatsApp group – still going strong three years after the film’s release.
