Do we even need to ask this question? While John Galliano may have been the king of theatricality meets sophistication at Dior, Simons was the king of structure meets minimalism. Throughout the show, we saw a constant contrast between the two--trying to figure out how to be free--after all, freedom was the theme of the evening according to Simons, but also playing with structure, strictness, and sculpture. Breaking out of the bonds of peer pressure and pressure from the fashion media, but giving in to it as well. After all, many were wondering if those strucutred tuxedo jacket/dresses were saying something about the new Saint Laurent Paris. They were paired against free flowing ball gowns, full skirts, and fabrics. Perhaps it speaks to Raf Simons and his undertaking of the label--freedom--within limits.
