The Breguet Type XX Transatlantique is a refined survivor. Spawned from the same 1950s "golden age" of professional watches that launched the Rolex Submariner, Omega Speedmaster, and Breitling Navitimer, the Breguet Type XX wasn't named; it was designated by the number of its French military contract number - #20.
But this 18-karat yellow gold Breguet Type XX Transatlantique 3820BA is a 39.5mm luxury watch in every sense. Like a retired warrior who's earned his doctorate, this Breguet Type XX combines the rugged image of its past with the refined manner of its new role.
And this Breguet Type XX is refined, indeed. Consider its complex three-link bracelet. The alternating finish of the links (brushed and polished), subtle fluting of the outer links, and contrasting white gold hinge of its deployant clasp speak to a high horology sensibility.
The classic Breguet "coined" case flanks segue into a bidirectional pilot's bezel with a lumed index and high-polish surface. That, in turn, transitions into a concave rehaut that eases the step from bezel to dial.
And what a dial! Breguet is known for its classical silver guilloche watch faces, but this Type XX Transatlantique departs from the norm with spectacular effect. Whether you call it off-white, ivory, cream, or eggshell, the warmth of this Breguet's dial is undeniable, and applied gold Arabic numerals compound the effect.
