Discover the story behind Adrian Appiolaza’s first-ever menswear show for Moschino, a captivating journey from formality to creative freedom. Once bound by the constraints of corporate attire while working in insurance in Argentina, Appiolaza’s past experience fuels his imaginative and rebellious approach to fashion. This debut collection for Moschino weaves three distinct narratives: a shift from rigid corporate formality to expressive liberation, the rich archival history of Moschino, and Appiolaza’s personal voyage from Argentina to London, Paris, and now Milan. Inspired by Franco Moschino’s philosophy, “It’s better to dress as you wish than as you should,” Appiolaza transforms traditional menswear into a canvas for playful and ironic commentary. The show begins with satirical takes on corporate attire, featuring shirt skirts, real shirts paired with unreal suspenders, and multi-hatted suits. Iconic Moschino pieces like the shredded fax housecoat, Moschino Air hat, and Post-it suit signal a transition from the mundane to the fantastical. As the runway unfolds, Appiolaza’s design evolution is reflected in archetypal looks that blend his past and present. A soccer-ball sweater paired with a tri-starred baseball cap nods to his Argentine roots, while Italian flag soccer motifs and red-sauce-splattered outfits celebrate his new creative home. From Latin lovers in carpenter jeans to southern sirens in embroidered skirts, the collection pays homage to a myriad of influences.
