AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK VS PATEK PHILIPPE NAUTILUS
The team compares some of the industry’s most iconic luxury watches in the second installment of Watch Talk Face-Off, starting with two Genta masterpieces - the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak vs. Patek Philippe Nautilus.
Both watches were designed by respected Swiss watchmaker, Gerald Genta, with the Royal Oak hitting the market first.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was released in 1972. It’s often distinguished by a striking octagonal bezel decorated with hexagonal screws, an integrated bracelet, and the Royal Oak’s trademark “Tapisserie” waffle pattern dial.
The Nautilus followed a few years later in 1976, also featuring a unique case shape, this time inspired by the porthole of a ship with rounded edges. The Nautilus also features a striking patterned dial, only this time with horizontal lines. The Nautilus also notably features an integrated bracelet.
