You know what time it is - it’s time for the latest installment of our Watch in the Box video series! Episode 6 is out now!
In Episode 6 of our Watch in the Box video series, we dive deep and take a closer look at the modern version of the king of dive watches: the stainless steel Rolex Submariner reference 116610.
Without a doubt, the Rolex Submariner is one of the world's most recognizable watch designs of all time, and the classic stainless steel version (both modern and vintage) is generally the most sought-after by collectors. While the Submariner has been in continuous production since the mid-1950s, Rolex decided to give it a major update in 2010 with the introduction of the ref. 116610.
While it retains the same Caliber 3135 movement and 40mm case diameter as the previous generation of Rolex Submariner dive watches, virtually all other aspects of the updated reference 116610 were different.
Along with thicker hands and larger hour markers (unofficially known as a “Maxi” dial among collectors and enthusiasts), the Rolex Submariner 116610 also boasts larger crown guards, thicker lugs, a bezel insert made from Cerachrom (Rolex’s proprietary ceramic material), and a completely redesigned bracelet and clasp.
However, while the ref. 116610 Submariner offers a number of significant updates and changes over the previous generation, it still adheres to the same timeless and highly-functional design language that defines this iconic Rolex dive watch.
