For Episode 7 of our Watch in the Box video series we got in an extra special Rolex watch - and it’s a wild one!
To many, the Rolex Daytona reference 116598 SACO - AKA the “Leopard Daytona” or simply the “Leopard” is widely considered to be one of the absolute most outlandish watches that Rolex has ever manufactured; however it also represents one of the most unusual and seldom seen Rolex Daytona references ever created.
First introduced at Baselworld 2004, the Rolex Daytona 116598 SACO is anything but a traditional Rolex timepiece. Featuring a solid gold case, a leopard print dial and matching strap, diamond lug hoods, and a bezel set with 36 baguette-cut yellow sapphires, the “Leopard Daytona” is the true definition of a luxury statement piece.
Like other modern Rolex Daytona watches, the ref. 116598 SACO features a 40mm case fitted with Rolex’s in-house Caliber 4130 automatic movement. However, this is where the similarities end. It is unknown exactly how many of these gem-set, leopard-print Rolex Daytona watches were produced; however, they are without a doubt one of the watches least spotted out in the wild (no pun intended).
Watch Episode 7 of our Watch in the Box video series to learn more about the ref. 116598 SACO Daytona, and discover this wild and ultra-rare Rolex chronograph!
