It seems strange that Rolex would almost camouflage the lume on a matching white dial for a watch that was developed for optimal visibility while in dark environments. However, it's still very legible with contrasting black surrounds on both the hour markers and hands. This subtle contrast makes for easy reading at a glance while creating an aesthetic unlike anything else in the Rolex catalog. This edition remained in production alongside its black dial counterpart for several decades until ref. 216570 made its triumphant debut in 2011, featuring a larger 42mm case and the return of the orange “Freccione” arrow hand that debuted on the inaugural model from 1971.
