This is a Rolex GMT-Master II 16710 review. Today we’re here to talk about a legendary Rolex sport watch, the GMT-Master II reference 16710B, the one with the blue and red bezel, known throughout the watch world as the Pepsi. The original GMT-Master was a product of the 1950s, when Rolex and Pan American World Airways joined forces to produce a watch for pilots flying international routes. The Pepsi bezel was around from the beginning to 2007, when the 16710 was discontinued. The 16710 was in production in three different bezel colors from 1989 to 2007, and the Pepsi version, the 16710B, was by far the most popular. The Pepsi name comes from the blue and red color combination, the same colors that mark the Pepsi-Cola soft drink brand logo. And for you curious types, yes there was a version of the 16710 called the Coke. We’ll talk about that one in another video, though. Bezel The blue and red are there to roughly indicate day and night: blue for night – 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and red for day – 6:00am to 6:00 pm. The bezel is made of aluminum and printed with the various colors. In some older watches, these colors have faded or are scratched and marked up. This so-called patina can be highly sought-after by collectors, although it can make these older watches hard to read. A final note on the bezel: it’s bi-directional. That means it can turn either direction to quickly set the additional time zone. Case The case of the 16710 is actually slimmer than the watch it replaced
